Constantine The Great

(27 February 273 - 22 May 337)

First Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity. On the eve of the battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312, Constantine saw the sign of the cross over the sky with the words             "En Toutoi Nika", the Latin interpretation is "In Hoc Signo Vinces" and translates to            "In This Sign, You Shall Conquer".  That night, Constantine had a dream where Christ appeared commanding him to carry the sign of the cross into battle.

The Day of the battle, the old banners and shields were changed with the new symbol bearing the sign of the cross, the Chi-Rho, Constantine was victorious and conquered by the cross.
